WATER CHEMISTRY

New Age International (P) Ltd
ISBN (13) : 978-81-224-2499-7
Copyright © 1996

Book Description,

After my long association with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, several colleagues suggested that I should write a book on Water Chemistry, considering my deep involvement with the development of this subject. Since I felt that writing a book would be no easy task, I deferred it. Three years later during my recovery from surgery, which restricted my outdoor movements my wife persuaded me to start this task. In deference to her wishes and that of other friends, I made a beginning and soon found that MIs Wiley Eastern Ltd. would be willing to publish it. From then onwards, there wns no going back and the result is this monograph, "Water Chemistry and Industrial Water Treatment."

PROGRAMMA CONTROLLERS

Published by Industrial Text Company
ISBN 0-944107-32-X
© 1988, 1997 by Industrial Text Company

Book Description,

Since the first edition of this book in 1988, the capabilities of programmable logic controllers have grown by leaps and bounds. Likewise, the applications of PLCs have grown with them. In fact, in today’s increasingly computercontrolled environment, it is almost impossible to find a technical industry that does not use programmable controllers in one form or another. To respond to these phenomenal changes, we introduce the second edition of Programmable Controllers: Theory and Implementation.

THE CONCISE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF STATISTICS

Springer Science
ISBN: 978-0-387-32833-1
© 2008 Springer Science + Business Media, LLC.

Book Description,
With this concise volume we hope to satisfy the needs of a large scientific community previously served mainly by huge encyclopedic references. Rather than aiming at a comprehensive coverage of our subject, we have concentrated on the most important topics, but explained those as deeply as space has allowed. The result is a compactwork whichwe trust leaves no central topics out. Entries have a rigid structure to facilitate the finding of information. Each term introduced here includes a definition, history, mathematical details, limitations in using the terms followed by examples, references and relevant literature for further reading.

THE CHEMISTRY OF OIKS AND FATS

Blackwell Publishing Ltd
ISBN 1-4051-1626-9
C 2004 by Blackwell Publishing Ltd

Book Description,
The book is designed for `beginners' ± but who are they? They may be graduate students in many disciplines, whose studies require a knowledge of lipids; graduates and others in later life coming afresh to an industry using oils and fats; they may be interested in nutrition, or they may be technologists in the food industry. All of these people may find their knowledge of lipids to be inadequate and require a more thorough introduction to the topic. This book is a good place to start.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

CRC Press
Taylor & Francis Group
ISBN‑13: 978‑0‑8493‑8396‑0
© 2008 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

Book Description,
Engineers require an ever-increasing range of business communication skills to maintain relevance with the dynamic business environment. Engineers in all positions must communicate the purpose and relevance of their work, both orally and in writing. If you work in industry, you must communicate with managers and coworkers, and perhaps with customers and suppliers. If you are responsible for raising funds for your Research & Development (R&D) project, you must market your ideas effectively, write proposals, and generate enthusiasm for your research. If you work in public policy or government, you might have to communicate with the press and other members of the public. Employers now seek graduates with excellent skills that go beyond academic credentials, including:
-Business communication
-Decision making in uncertainty
-Risk engineering and management

Nature Neuroscience
(ISSN 1097-6256)

Description,
Correlated network activity is important in the development of many neural circuits. Watt et al.
characterize monsynaptic connections between Purkinje cells of the juvenile cerebellum and use these
measurements to model the generation of traveling waves of activity between connected Purkinje cells. They validate their model with observations in juvenile cerebellar cortex. (p 463) Manipulations of retinal activity
modulate thalamic firing patterns (p 390) MicroRNA regulates adult neurogenesis (pp 369 and 399)

ISBN 0-12-618520-4
Copyright © 1999 by Academic Press

Book Description,
This book provides information on the stages of machinery design for automated manufacturing and offers a step-by-step process for making it optimal. This is illustrated by numerous examples of technical concepts taken from different manufacturing domains. The author, being a university teacher, sees that teaching curricula
and textbooks most often do not provide the answers to the questions: How are things built? How do they work? How does one best approach the design process for a specific machine? Most textbooks emphasize computation theories and techniques and deal less with the physical objects that the theories describe.

Nature Neuroscience
(ISSN 1097-6256)
Nature Publishing Group

Description,
Retinitis pigmentosa is characterized by an initial loss of rod photoreceptors followed by a progressive loss of
cones, although the known mutations causing retinitis pigmentosa are all in rod-specific genes. Punzo et al. now report that rod-specific mutations in the insulin/mTOR pathway may contribute to cone death as a result
of photoreceptor starvation. The cover depicts phosphorylated mTOR in dorsal cone receptors (cell bodies
in magenta, outer segments in green and mTOR in red). (pp 5 and 44)
Training restores degraded cortical processing (p 26)
Homotypic repulsion mediates retinal tiling (p 35)
Paired lateral neuron function in olfactory learning (p 53)
Stimulus contrast modulates functional connectivity (pp 10 and 70)

TEXTBOOK OF NEPHRO-ENDOCRINOLOGY

 Adited by
Ajay K. Singh, MD
Gordon H. Williams, MD

Book Description,
During the last quarter century, dramatic increases in our understanding of the relationship of the renal and endocrine systems have occurred. While many of these advances have been documented in original and review articles and in some standard medical, renal or endocrine textbooks, a compilation of them in one text has not been available. Of interest, it was 25 years ago in 1983 that Dr. Michael Dunn edited what we believe was the last text on this subject. One of the editors of this text also served as a chapter author in Dunn’s book. Some subjects are similar between Dunn’s and the present text. Both have chapters on the renin–angiotensin system, aldosterone, antidiuretic hormone, parathyroid hormone and Vitamin D, insulin, thyroid hormone, female sex hormones and erythropoietin. In addition, the current textbook has chapters on atrial natriuretic peptides, growth hormone, acid–base balance and pregnancy.

ROAD ENGINEERING FOR DEVELOPMENT

First published 2004
by Spon Press
11 New Fetter Lane, London EC4P 4EE
ISBN 0–415–27948–8
© 2004 Richard Robinson and Bent Thagesen

Book Description,
The book is designed primarily as a fundamental text for civil engineering students, but an additional objective is to offer a broader view of the subject for practising engineers in road departments, consultancies and international organizations. It provides a comprehensive account of the wide range of technical problems
confronting road engineers working in the third world. However, it recognizes that engineering in this part of the world needs to be undertaken within the wider framework of development, institutional and social issues. As such, additional chapters are provided on roads and development, policy, environment, institutional development, training and development aid.
